SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH FOR IMPACT AND CHANGE (SRH4IC)

The certificate program in Sexual and Reproductive Health for Impact and Change is aimed at providing interested individuals with the necessary competencies and skills to function effectively as professionals in health and medically related industries, and to facilitate the provision of evidence-based strategies that will promote sexual and reproductive health outcome in their various communities.

Objectives
• To provide the students with the scientific knowledge and skills required to enhance their performance as members of the healthcare team.
• To enable a better understanding of sexual and reproductive health, together with related issues.
• To produce sexual and reproductive health practitioners who are socially responsible and mindful of accepted norms and ethics.

Admission Requirements
Five (5) O’Level credits to include English language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, in not more than two (2) sittings.
In addition, candidates are expected to hold any of the following qualifications;
1. MBBS degree from any recognized medical school.
2. BSc (at least 3rd Class division in any health-related discipline.
3. State Registered Diploma Certificate of Nursing/Midwifery (SRN/SRM)
4. HND (at least lower credit in any health-related discipline from an approved College of Health Technology)

 

FAMILY PLANNING FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The certificate program in family planning is aimed at providing interested individuals with, or without, the necessary competencies and skills to function effectively as experts in providing quality family planning services and ultimately increase family planning uptake with an overall improvement of the nation’s contraceptive prevalence rate.

Objectives
• To provide the candidate with the scientific knowledge and skills required to enable them to perform as family planning champions in their various communities.
• To develop the competencies of healthcare providers towards effective delivery of family planning commodities.
• To build the capacity of family planning advocates towards effective evidence-based advocacy on family planning.
• To enhance the capacity of family planning trainers towards effective step-down capacity building of family planning resource persons.

Admission Requirements
Entry requirements for certificate options 1(Services), 2 (Training), and 3 (Research)
Three (3) O’level credits to include English language and Biology. Candidates are also expected to hold any of the following qualifications: a Bachelor’s degree/HND in medical or health-related discipline; diploma certificate of Nursing and Midwifery Council (SRN/SRM); diploma certificate in Community Health Technology (Junior/Senior-Community Health Extension Worker/Community Health Officers [CHOs]); and Pharmacy Technicians.
Entry requirements for certificate option 4 (Advocacy)
Individuals with or without medical qualification, either already or intending to work in reproductive health/family planning organizations – e.g. Community Health Influencers, Promoters and Services (CHIPS); Village Health Workers; Traditional Leaders; Counsellors; Faith-based (religious leaders); and other similar personnel.

 

HEALTH COMMUNICATION

The overall aim of the course is to produce graduates who can sufficiently plan, implement and evaluate public health interventions to improve health outcomes at the individual, household, and community levels.

Objectives
Specifically, the objectives of the course include:
• To develop the student’s understanding of the socio-cultural context of health and how this affects health behaviors and outcomes;
• To develop in the student, the knowledge and skills to provide health information that helps people to make informed health decisions; improve the health capacity of communities and promote the adoption of policies – in the public and private sectors – that enhance health;
• To empower students with the necessary skills to develop strategic health communication plans, and implement, and evaluate public health interventions to improve health outcomes.
Career and Employment Prospects
Successful candidates in health communication have diverse employment opportunities. They can take up careers in health promotion, health policy, health journalism, public affairs, public relations and community relations in government, not-for-profit organizations, media and
corporate organizations.

Admission Requirement
The basic requirements for admission into the program shall be as follows:
Candidates must possess five (5) O-level credits including English and with either of the following:
• At least 3rd class degree in any of the Arts, Sciences, health-related, or Social Science courses.
• At least an OND degree in any of the Arts, Sciences, or Social Science courses with a minimum of lower credit from a recognized institution.
